We had reports on 99 ZTBs in the last nine days, in 18 states and 13 countries. The outbreak in eastern Europe continues to expand, with major activity in Croatia (326) hits. Portugal had an uptick as well, but we think the real story is in Asia. While the numbers were not exceptionally high, we have seen steady reports over the last few months from this region, and the new outbreak in South Korea, as well as continued reports from Japan, and 40 new reports from China are grim news. While this may seem like small potatoes to those of us who have faced major outbreaks, we all must remember that it started small. We’re anxious to see what happens in this region over time. Hopefully it is not a repeat of what is happening here.
We had the usual high activity here in Maryland, but that is expected at this point. Disturbingly, the spread into Virginia continues, and Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island continue to see very high activity. All that being said, New Jersey seems to be the new hotspot, with 478 reports in the last nine days, higher than anywhere else on the planet. We can only hope it does not get worse.
